March 19 2010

For the past week I have been reading the books of the Twilight Series, thanks to a friend. On doing so, I realized what a hopeless romantic I am. Every time there is a confrontation between the protagonists I had chill run through me. I always was ambivalent about the existence of magic. My mind always said.....hell no!!!!!!! while my heart always craved for a magical world. Reading books like Harry Potter and Twilight just instilled a stronger yearning for magic in this world.

Well, the existence of creatures like vampires and werewolves, does also bring the fear associated with them besides the thrill. On a serious note, most things which are accepted scientific facts today, may have easily looked like magic in another time. The best being, the "Earth is flat" ..........this was believed for so long when it was agreed upon that if the earth was not flat then the oceans would have definitely spilled over. Maybe some of the unsolved murders could be attributed to the existence of these so called mythical creatures. All myths must revolve around some truth. I find it hard to believe that people would be so creative in constructing these myths and passing them along.

Today science has reached an age where scientists look into mythological texts to find answers. Science today is more of re-discovering than inventing and discovering. One such branch of science is Noetic science which translates to "ways of knowing". Noetic science explores the "inner cosmos" of the mind and how it relates to the "outer cosmos" of the physical world. According to this, the soul can also be weighed. This could be an interesting theory, but if spoken aloud without proof, its simply a myth.Wonder how long before that is proven.

Hailing the mythical creatures that make my life more interesting, I'm off to dream...........

EPCOT is 1 of the 4 theme parks of the Walt Disney World. The others being Magic Kingdom,Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.Having been pleased with our experiences in Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, we decided to see the technological wonder that was EPCOT.Well, we also had the 4 park pass at our disposal.

The day started early and we entered the park by 10:00 am(kinda early for a saturday). We knew it was going to be a long day. The park sprawls across 300 acres and is divided into Future World and World Showcase. The first thing 1 notices as you enter the park is the Spaceship Earth which looks like a giant golf ball rising above the horizon. Once you get over the overwhelming size of Spaceship Earth, you see that here the attractions are mostly done by technology giants like Siemens and Kodak. There are rides and there are rides.........here you have a look at the future. The "Honey, I Shrunk The Audience" is an entertaining 3D show for kids and big kids. Also there is the imagination pavilion with the Kodak "What if" labs and the intriguing "Playground of the Future". There was a ride called Soaring which gives you a feel of para gliding. Ofcourse, this is just a simulation where you remain seated in your chair. But when the ride starts you feel like you are gliding over the Golden Gate bridge, the Rockies and many other famous spots. The whole ride was surreal. This ride got us hungry and we stopped to grab a bite. With multitude of palatable choices making a decision sure seemed hard.

Post lunch, we went to the second part which was the World Showcase. This is comprised of 11 pavilions for 11 countries. Inside each pavilion you find shops, attractions and eateries which represent the culture and cuisine of that country. Unfortunaely, India is not among them. The countries were Mexico, Norway,China, Germany, Italy,United States,Japan,Morocco,France,United Kingdom and Canada. We managed to see the performance of a few countries.

Among them the Chinese - which was gymnastics with hoopla and other props performed by young Chinese girls. The agility in their moves and the balance in their postures was simply admirable. The Germans had a beer festival happening. The US had a play and some country music. There was a Japanese folklore recited by a Japanese woman which was again very entertaining. UK had a band of 4 mopheads performing renditions of famous hits from the 60's.But the best among all the performances we watched was the belly dancing of Morocco. Every single part of the dancer's body moved and hence the term "belly dance" is a misnomer for this art form. The whole act was so captivating that one forgets the time and space he is in. This act made us forget our aching legs and crying children. Well, you cant really forget crying children. But again, this made us light on our feet.

It was about 8pm when we covered most of the park. We had aching feet, tiring bodies and growling stomachs to tend to. The walk around the whole park tires you out.Besides, we also had to brave a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. We fed ourselves and decided to take leave. We also resolved to come back and watch all the missed performances and complete all the rides which are impossible to cover in 1 day.We finally got back to our cars in the parking, marveling at the technology and innovation that is EPCOT.

Too tired to write more............

March 3 2010 3:00pm (EST)

Today like all days started with me waking up to the touch of my sons little fingers. After taking care of the daily routine I sat down to watch some recorded TV. What is with the reality shows? Do reality shows have any reality? I think not.

There's this program called The Bachelor, which is more like a dating service.1 guy having to choose his partner from among 25 beautiful women. Each week 1 contestant gets eliminated based on his choice or rather on his disapproval of that contestant.Sounds fair....except it isnt. This particular bachelor fell in love with almost all the women.Basically he had a good time and told most of the girls that he was falling in love with them, before he dumped them.

1 of the contestants decided to back out herself, because she prioritized her job over him. There was a huge drama over her leaving the show. The bachelor seemed (read pretended)to be heart broken on her exit. Well finally he made his choice and got engaged. At the end of the show they announced the next Bachelorette.......and who should it be ......the very girl who had chosen her job over him.The funny part is....... that her job does not seem to be a priority any more.

Reality shows are actually not needed. These days the news channels take care of the entertainment with reality. Its a good thing there are a multitude of channels to chose from. And it is totally up to us what we choose to watch.Having said that, I think its okay to peek into shows like The Bachelor once in a way and see how far we are from reality.

I need to get back to my reality now. Time to get some work done.

Signing off for today...........

March 2, 2010 1.40 pm (EST)

Today is a first for many things. Among the many, it is the first time I decided to write on my blog, after having thought about it for ages. Procrastination certainly seems to be the order of the day for me. Now that I have begun to write, I just hope and pray that I can do justice and write on a regular basis. What better topic to start with than a certain someone who defines you and your day.

At one year and 4 months my little boy is quite a handful. Empowered with a vocabulary of 35-40 words he spends all day trying to use the words as and when he can. If opportunities to use them do not present themselves, then he creates them.A little mind at work is sure fun to watch.

People love to talk about the adorable side of babies, but in this past year I have realized that they can present trying times for you.And this is most seen when you try to get them to eat.Trust me, babies have choices and well thought of schemes to avoid things they do not want.Besides, these choices change in time, so much so something he totally loved will soon be something revolting. And that means he would rather go hungry than chew on it.Also there is the mess they can create in your neat home. Toys strewn all over the floor, that you actually trip on them, neatly made bed looking so ghastly you cringe. If you manage to dodge, rather overlook these obstacles, your day can be almost prefect filled with giggles and innocent nudges from your angel.

Never too exuberant in success, nor too defeated in failure.

I rest now, with the belief that I have been a good mother so far.

Love always -
